
Level 3 Teaching Assistant Apprenticeship

The Level 3 Teaching Assistant Apprenticeship has been developed in collaboration with schools and educational professionals to ensure you gain the right skills to make an impact and help meet the diverse needs of today’s children and young people.
Off-the-job-training
This is learning which takes place outside of day-to-day work duties and leads towards the achievement of the apprenticeship. It takes place during normal contracted work hours. The apprenticeship is designed to train for full competence in an occupation rather than just in the individual job they are employed in, so the breadth and depth can be wider than the job.
The off the job training should be aligned to on the job training and work. It must be directly related to the apprenticeship and involves a minimum of 6 hours per week. This could be daily, weekly or done as a block of time and can be delivered by the training provider or by the employer.
About The Course
The Level 3 Teaching Assistant Apprenticeship is designed to give you the knowledge, skills and behaviours required to support teachers and children effectively in various educational settings. This apprenticeship offers hands-on learning, ensuring you’re ready for the classroom environment as soon as you complete the programme.
Over 12-18 months, you’ll be trained in essential areas of educational support; you’ll be prepared to work with children across all key stages, including those with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).
The programme is flexible and accessible, allowing you to balance learning with your current work or life commitments. You’ll have the option to learn through blended formats (both face-to-face and online), making it easier to fit around your schedule.

What You Learn
As part of this apprenticeship, you’ll cover various topics to help you develop into a confident and capable Teaching Assistant. Key areas of study include:
- Contribute to the overall ethos and aims of the organisation and promote diversity, inclusion, equality, and acceptance of all students in line with school policies, including challenging stereotyped views, bullying, or harassment. Providing one-to-one or small group support to help students achieve learning goals
- Work in partnership and liaise with other professionals (such as the teaching staff, SENDCo, or external advisors) and parents/carers to support all learners’ learning
- Promote engagement and teach learning behaviours to support the development of independent learning
- Support the social, emotional, and mental health, well-being, and personal care of all learners in accordance with organisational policy and procedures.
- Contribute to assessment and planning by supporting the monitoring, recording, and reporting of learner outcomes and participation as agreed with the teacher
- Supporting children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)
